If you are reading this because we have worked together before or a trusted friend or colleague has recommended me, that’s a good place to start. After 30 years of working in the lighting design industry these connections are important to me. If you are new to nb Lighting & Design, welcome.
Each project and client are unique. I endeavour to create an elegant lighting scheme for each of the homes and gardens I work on. The emphasis is on service and ensuring the design is tailored to each client’s aspirations and bespoke to the style of the interiors.
Lighting dovetails with every aspect of a home and needs to be thought through from the outset. I am here to guide you through both the technical and aesthetic detail, so the lighting subtly compliments your finished home and enhances your enjoyment of the space.
Your ideas and aspirations for your home, are the starting point and I like to work closely with you and your design team to realise your aspirations.
Early involvement in the design process enables the lighting to be an integral part of the design decisions and is often useful in really thinking about how a space will be used. I offer lighting ideas to enhance the architecture, integrate with the interior detail and extend your enjoyment of the garden.
A detailed lighting package of drawings, luminaire and control schedules, provide all the information needed by your contractors to progress on site. Lighting dovetails with the architecture, joinery, kitchen, batrooms and garden so co-ordination is key.
If you need me, I will be on hand during the build to talk through the lighting with your nominated contractor and keep up with developments as things progress.
It’s important to me to commission your project to ensure you enjoy the best of the lighting scheme that has been installed and I work closely with the AV guys to achieve this.
nb Lighting & Design was established in 2006 to enable me to work flexibly as an independent lighting consultant. I am proud to have designed the lighting for hundreds of beautiful homes and gardens and enjoy the one-to-one working relationship I have with my clients and the cohesive teams that are formed to create each home. Working regularly with the same architects, designers, contractors, clients, suppliers and AV specialists is one of the joys of the work.
My fascination for lighting was sparked in 1990 while studying 3D Design with Applied Technology. The MSc in Light & Lighting developed my appreciation of the magic natural and artificial light brings to spaces.
A range of roles in luminaire & lighting design followed and by 1999 I was a senior lighting designer at BDP, working on prestigious heritage and exciting commercial projects. In 2003 I decided to focus on residential projects and joined the John Cullen lighting team who specialise in this area.
I also have a garden design diploma from the prestigious London College of Garden Design. This gives me a detailed understanding of planting plans and how a garden evolves with time, which is helpful when designing garden lighting and can start the discussion when there is a blank canvas outside.
