Our client wanted a smart, classic contemporary front garden with all year interest, parking, privacy, trees and lighting. A fossil buff limestone path leads to the front door and on to the side gate. This contains stabilized gravel parking and pockets of planting with clipped box hedge edges to define the space. Three Prunus serrula lead you to the front door and the mahogany tones of the bark are picked up in the Cornus alba ‘Kesselringii’. Tracheloespermum jasminoides and Rosa ‘White Cloud’ are gradually climbing through the railings to offer privacy, scent and elegant flowers in the summer. The under-planting is a mix of shade loving ferns and grasses, lifted with Penstemon ‘Raven’, Anemone x hybrida ‘Honorine Jobert’ and Geranium ‘Rozanne’. Spring interest is added with Allium hollandiucum ‘Purple Sensation’ and Lilium martagon ‘Album’. Simple uplighting to the trees, gate piers and through the plants on to the house walls complete the scheme.
